MASD Eagle Claw Kung Fu FAQ

Have you ever had to use your Kung Fu to protect yourself or someone?

Yes. That’s the short answer.

The long answer involves avoiding situations that put you at risk of harm, especially situations you can avoid. If you can’t avoid it then at least you are prepared. Realization that real-world application is a lot more chaotic than demo day at the gym. That’s why we train for both: form and function.

Can I train Eagle Claw AND other styles like BJJ, Wrestling, or Muay Thai?

Absolutely.
This isn’t a jealousy, it’s bout self improvement In fact, Eagle Claw thrives alongside grappling, striking, and modern MMA training. You’re not cheating, you’re cross-training, and that’s personal martial arts growth.

Do you spar?

We spar.
You spar.
Everyone spars.

From day one, you’ll get introduced to controlled, respectful sparring. No “wait six months for your first contact.” We believe sparring is essential not optional for developing timing, distance, and real-world application.

What’s the lineage of this Eagle Claw system?

Great question—and we’re proud of the answer.
Our Eagle Claw comes through Dr. Israel Mak, D.C., my instructor and classmate when I was studying acupuncture. He’s from Hong Kong and trained in the Fast Connecting Fist (Lian Quan) system, starting with the first 10 forms. His background is rooted in the principles of the Chin Woo Athletic Association, known for blending martial arts styles with cultural exchange and values of unity and discipline.

While many American students trace their Eagle Claw through the legendary Leung Shum, our lineage is a parallel branch. Different tree, same deep roots.

Do I have to memorize forms like in traditional martial arts?

Yes, but you do what you can.
The first 10 forms of Lian Quan aren’t just choreography. They’re movement vocabulary. Once you “speak” them fluently, you’ll move with purpose—not panic. Plus, they’re fun, flowy, and full of fight applications.

What if I just want to get fit and learn self-defense but don’t care about lineage?

Then you’re still in the right place.
We train for strength, clarity, endurance, flexibility, and confidence. Whether you care about the scroll or just want to be able to handle yourself if things go sideways—we got you.

Is it okay if I’ve never trained before?

Of course!
Everyone starts somewhere, and we welcome beginners, curious cross-trainers, (especially working with older adults), and anyone tired of watching martial arts videos and finally ready to do it themselves.

Do you teach kids or just adults?

Right now we’re focusing on adult training.
If you’re under 18 and interested, reach out—we’re working on options. (And if you’re a parent reading this, yes, I do teach real-world discipline and self defense applicability. Improved health, better temperament, and increase focus are all goals.

How do I sign up or try a class?

Easy. Head to selfdefensehub.pro or everyoneTaiChi.com (depending on the program), fill out the form, and let’s get your first class on the calendar or start training from home.
